• Police cancel match at NEC Nijmegen due to threat of trouble
• Rovers supporters involved in disturbances in Deventer

Blackburn’s pre-season friendly with the Dutch club NEC Nijmegen scheduled for Sunday afternoon has been cancelled due to the threat of fan violence.
The decision was taken by the police and the local authorities in Nijmegen after it was claimed Rovers supporters had been involved in disturbances in Deventer on Friday and Saturday.
In addition to the friendly, Nijmegen had been set to host a fans’ open day, which was expected to attract around 8,000 visitors including families with young children.
A statement on the Gelderland-Zuid section of the www.politie.nl website read: “The deputy mayor of Nijmegen has decided to cancel the exhibition game between NEC and Steve Kean’s side. That match was due to be played today at 2.30pm during the annual open day of NEC.
“Supporters of the English club Blackburn Rovers were involved in rioting in Deventer on Friday and on Saturday there was a confrontation with supporters of NEC Nijmegen in the city.
“On the basis of serious signals to the police that a confrontation would take place again today, deputy mayor Henk Beerten in consultation with police, judiciary and mayor Hubert Bruls decided to cancel the match this afternoon.”
A statement on the Championship club’s website said: “Both clubs wish to express their disappointment that such a decision has been necessary.”
NEC said in a statement that they regretted the decision to cancel the match, but understood it was taken with regard to safety
The news follows allegations of racist abuse against Newcastle’s players during Saturday night’s goalless draw with another Eredivisie side, ADO Den Haag.
The Magpies have confirmed they would be addressing the issue “privately” with Den Haag, with the matter expected to be resolved early next week.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has voiced his frustration with his substitute role as Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk seems to prefer Robin van Persie for the position of striker.
The Schalke attacker netted an impressive 48 goals in all competitions this term, but had to settle for a place on the bench in Holland’s 2-0 friendly win over Slovakia, much to his disappointment.
“Angry is probably not the right word, but I have so many questions right now,” Huntelaar was quoted as saying by De Telegraaf.
“I can’t do any better than last season, I always train hard and I have a positive attitude. There’s a chance that you become despondent if you still don’t get a chance. I don’t know what I have to do to become Oranje’s first-choice striker to be honest.”
The striker then went on to suggest that he is not concerned with the form of the Arsenal hitman, as he is only focusing on his own performances.
“The annoying thing is that everybody’s talking about me and Robin. The outside world seems to be think it’s either Van Persie or Huntelaar.
“I’m not seeing it that way, though. I am only looking at myself, and I want to play.”
Netherlands are currently preparing for their final warm-up friendly against Northern Ireland on Saturday.
They have been paired with Denmark, Germany and Portugal at in Group B at Euro 2012.
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is a doubt for the Netherlands’ friendly against England on Wednesday after pulling up with a groin problem in training
The 28-year-old missed the last 10 minutes of training on Tuesday evening after aggravating a groin strain he sustained during Arsenal’s 5-2 victory against Tottenham on Sunday. Despite the scare, Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk played down the extent of Van Persie’s injury and is hopeful the striker will be fit to face England at Wembley. “We will have to wait and see but I don’t think it’s too serious. I am optimistic he will play,” he said. Van Persie has netted 33 goals in 39 appearances for Arsenal and the Netherlands this season and Van Marwijk praised the striker’s adaptation after moving into a more central role. SOURCE: www.goal.com “Robin is in great form. It’s a little bit different this season with Robin,” he said. “He is scoring a lot of goals now. He is now a centre-forward. “Normally he is a player who plays in combination, with others. He did that with Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri but now he plays very deep as a striker.” “The performance is more important than the result for us tomorrow,” he noted. “We want to play in the Dutch way. We want to win but it’s more important that we are ready when the Euros come around.”
